How to do DIY SEO

DIY SEO is a pretty vast subject and is probably one of the most frustrating parts of running an online business.  People who are SEO Experts usually can make top dollar for consulting with businesses to help them get to the top positions online.  While that is great for the SEO Expert, it’s not that great for you.

That is why most online marketers want to learn diy SEO.  You can do seo yourself and not worry about paying someone a premium to do it for you.  You can simply learn a few seo optimization tips and tactics and be on your way. However, if you don’t know what you are doing and simply jump right into creating content and putting up sites you will have failed before you really have the chance to get started.

DIY SEO Tips:

There are 2 seperate parts to DIY SEO you need to know before you get started.

DIY SEO – On-Page Factors

You must get your on-page factors squared away or your site will most likely never see the front page of Google.  That is a BIG PROBLEM.  Marketers who are just getting started need to understand how to rank well in the search engines or they will have to pay to send traffic to their sites, which eats away at your profits.  I will go ahead and give you a couple of diy seo design tips that will help you to learn how to do seo yourself.

DIY SEO Design Tips:

  • Exact Match Domain Name: If you own the domain you are putting your content on, you should always go after the domain name that includes your exact keyword if possible.  For example, you if you are making a site about the best fly fishing lures you want to try to by “bestflyfishinglures.com”. If that isn’t available then go after a domain name that has your exact keyword along with a suffix. For instance “bestflyfishingluresblog.com” or “bestflyfishingluresstore.com”.  Also you want to only get domains that end in .com, .net or .org as they seem to rank better then all of the other ones.  Also .co is pretty popular now and my be worth taking a look at.
  • Title: The title should have your keyword inside of it.  This may sound obvious but you would be surprised how many people have posts named “Untitled” or something else that is off subject.  This is probably the easiest diy seo tip I can give you.
  • Keyword Density: Keyword Density is just a fancy way of saying the ratio of words to your keyword.  What that means is for every 100 words you want to put your keyword into your writing 1-4 times.  This is the tricky part because if you go above 4 percent keyword density you generally start to see your Search Engine Rankings slip. Most people will tell you to try to stay within 2 to 3 percent or another way of saying it would be 2 or 3 keywords every hundred words of content.
  • Tags: Tagging your content takes all of 2 seconds but many times people forget to tag their posts.  To explain a tag, it is basically a way of telling the search engines that you post is talking about a certain subject, which is your keyword.  To keep it simple, If you are writing a post on a site and you see the word “Tags” or “Meta-Tags” of it, that is where you want to put your keywords.

These are just a few of the on-page seo factors that you can fix up to rank well in the search engines.  For more detailed information I suggest you check out Google Sniper, an SEO training course by a guy named George Brown that is very good at teaching people to get to the top of Google rankings fast without even doing off page SEO(more on that in a second).  If you are not really interested in learning the actual diy seo tips he teaches there are softwares that you can use to help you to rank well and do seo yourself at the same time.  The free software is called traffic travis.  It is a free diy SEO software that you can use to find out if you are well seo optimized on page and it gives you tips on how to fix your sites rankings.  Also, my favorite is SEOpressor, if you use wordpress to build your sites then Seopressor will help you to save tons of time on diy seo.  The software costs $97 dollars so if you don’t have the money for that then traffic travis will do the trick (I want to be as transparent as possible, so I am going to tell you that if you click on the links in this page, I will get paid a commision from when you buy any of the products. If you don’t feel comfortable with me getting paid a commission from that then simply type in the names of the courses or softwares in your search bar and you can feel free to buy it).

DIY SEO – Off Page Factors

Off page diy seo is really what will usually make or break your internet marketing businesses.  Most marketers simply don’t enjoy doing it because of how tedious it can be.  Simply put, Off page SEO is merely building backlinks. A Backlink is when a link to your site is found by search engines on other pages on the internet.  That is it in a nutshell, which sounds really simple, except for the fact that search engines give some sites more authority then others.  When your backlink is found on one high authority site, it will generally have a strength that is equal to or greater then multiple sites having backlinks on them.

The best example of this in the real world is Job references.  If you have a reference from the Major, Warren Buffet and A Best Selling Auther, you are more likely to be favored over the person who has a reference from their uncle who owns a little business and a middle school english teacher.

Diy SEO may sound like a daunting task but you can get great information from the course and the software I told you about and one of the best seo optimization tips I can give you for getting backlinks is to do just a little bit everyday for about 10 to 15 minutes a day.  Imagine if you could do 15 or 20 backlinks per day like that. In a month you would have around 450 to 600 backlinks.  In a year you would have around 5400 to 7200 backlinks.  That is the true power of diy seo.

A popular backlinking strategy is to go to blogs and forums and post comments on the sites you visit.  In each site place a link to your site.

A diy seo tip for you is that you should use anchor text to help you rank for your keyword.  Anchor text is when you see a word that is also a link.  For example, http://michaelmalbrough.com and Mike Malbrough will go to the same destination if you click on them because the word is and anchor text version of the link.  For more information on how to create anchor text, search google for “how to make anchor text”.

This Post is not meant to be an all inclusive report on diy seo but just a way for you to get some free seo optimization tips to get started with.  In conclusion I just want to say that you can do seo yourself and don’t be afraid to get in their and learn from your mistakes.
